News for the week Of Women activists in china

                                                                Summary

On march 6 through the 7th, in three separate Chinese cities-(Beijing, Guangzhou and Hangzhou); Five women were arrested for the disrupting of 'public order' and rallying the citizens of China.Wei Tingting, Wu Rongrong, Li Tingting, Wang Man and Zheng Churan were all arrested for there protest for women's rights in china. The five women fought for women's rights such as discrimination of women in the workroom, lack of women public restrooms...but mainly domestic violence/rape towards women. Women protested against domestic violence by splashing blood (red paint) on white wedding dresses.
the women could be subjected to 5 years in jail, says Wang Qiushi the lawyer of Wei Tingting but were still waiting for the verdict from the trial. In America the reaction to this would obviously be different, we would never charge 5 years of jail for a peaceful protest but why this happened to these women is because of China's government. China is a communist country causing them to restrict any disrespect towards the way they run there country. These 5 women are changing everything by fighting against a very strict government
                                                                Response
All 5 of the arrested women are part of a Chinese support group 'China's Women's Rights Action Group' and planned to hand out stickers on National Women's Day that promote against women discrimination....it's hard for me to understand how something this peaceful could lead to 5 years in jail. I realize now how lucky i am to live in america and not live under communist government. I understood how Chinese government is more strict, but I didn't understand the extent of what they do to their people. I'm more intrigued now to look into more of how Chinese government works.The hash-tag on twitter #FreeTheFive has started causing global outrage, I predict the girls will be safe from jail just simply because of social media. Social media is so powerful, causing even high up officials to talk about the situation on twitter such as Hilary Clinton. Now that the whole world knows of this unjust actions towards the women, The courtroom will think differently what will happen to them. Gaining followers for your movement is as simple as one tweet.

Wow, I didn't even know about this. These five women do not deserve this jail time. I am glad however that these women are standing up for their rights. Did Hillary CLinton talk about this? You mentioned her tweeting, was it about this issue? or Feminism in general?
